Well if you do think that religion was not important in Milan you totally wrong. Religion in Milan during the Renaissance had a lot to do with other areas of life in Milan. To begin with, most Milan people practiced the Catholic religion. The Catholic religion played a big part in a lot of things during the Renaissance. Some of these things included paintings. A lot of these things are inspired in Milan, Italy. Leonardo da Vinci, a famous Renaissance man, lived in Milan during the Renaissance. Some of his paintings are still famous today. He painted The Last Supper and The Virgin by himself. The Last Supper, personally my favorite painting, is very religious. This is because it has Jesus and his Disciples at their Last Supper together. One odd thing about this painting is that the Holy Grail is not included in the painting. Some people believe that the Holy Grail is what Jesus and his Disciples drank out of. Another famous painting by da Vinci is The Virgin. I also like this because it has a mother angel and three baby angels. This is also religious because of the many angels in it. Another famous painter from Milan during the Renaissance was Bramante. He also painted some religious paintings. My favorite picture of his is a picture of Jesus. This picture is called the Crista-alla-Colonna! Milan is also famous for their cathedrals. They had some of the most beautiful cathedrals from their time, maybe some of the most beautiful in the world. The Duomo di Milano took at least five centuries to build. It is still standing today. WOW!! It is still the fourth largest cathedral/church in the world. People today still visit this cathedral and many more. Some of these cathedrals could be called the rulers of the towns because that is where everyone always went. Milan also went by a lot of their own rights. They had their own rite called the Ambrosian Rite. The Ambrosian Rite is slightly different than the typical Catholic Rite. The only differences were in the liturgy, the mass celebration, and also in the calendar. The differences in the calendar were that they celebrated lent just a few days after the common Catholic date. The Ambrosian Rite was also practiced in Lombardy, and in the Swiss canton of Ticino.
